The Cambridge email account I don't have

I just received an announcement from my Cantab email account letting me know that if I want the full service account, I need to pay, otherwise I'll be downgraded. The Cantab.net is the official alumni email account for graduates from Cambridge. Most people don't know that because "cantab.net" or the alias "cambridgejbs.net" seem more of one of those email accounts you get for free such as engineers.co.uk or doctors.co.uk.

There are many nice things about Cambridge, but one of the biggests faults is actually one very simple thing: the lifelong alumni email accounts. Harvard, Stanford and all the others give their alumni free lifelong email accounts that are recognisable....using domains such as Stanford.edu. I expected to have a @cam.ac.uk account, with my name and year of graduation, like they do it in Harvard. That doesn't happen in Cambridge. For some reason, we loose our email accounts when we graduate.

How difficult can it be to make sure alumni keep their emails? Wouldn't it also be good for the school to have it's name advertised by the alumni community?

Instead...we have to use a very basic webmail service with cantab.net as domain....honestly, I'd rather use my personal email!

As an incoming MBA student, perhaps that is something we can bring up to the committee for consideration? Have you guys tried to speak to anyone?

Yes, we did. But it takes a long time for something to happen, as it has to go through the University of Cambridge...and that takes forever. Processes there are not lean at all!

Dear Judge Alum,
Your posts are really honest in content. Kudos for you for that! I am also considering applying to Judge 2010 MBA program and what interested me the most was the fact that you are interested in the renewable energy segment. I have been working in the technology transfer and renewable energy segment for last 5 years. It would really be great if you could share your experiences on the MBA, particularly from my perspective of taking the renewable energy movement to a global scale. Even if you could send me a greeting, I could post/ask you more specific questions.
Keep posting the good thoughts!
Thanks and best regards,
Anubhav

Dear Cambridge MBA Blogger,

Trust you are doing well!

I chanced upon your blog while scouting for Cambridge MBA related information. I must admit that it has been pretty difficult to find an alum or current student from Judge so far to guide me more about the school. A business plan developer for technology and innovation firms across the globe for the past five years, I am scouting for a b-school experience that can aid to fulfil my long-term aspirations in the domain. While the legacy of the institution and its international outlook are evident, I am particularly interested in knowing your perspective on Cambridge as a seat for pursuing technology and innovation oriented MBA. Being aware of your hectic life schedule, even if you aren't able to reply to my comment, I would be equally happy to continue interpreting your adages. Thanks for posting them!
